A Writer Can Do So Many Things For You

So many people think they know how to be a good writer. But it takes so much more than stringing together a bunch of words and using punctuation symbols. It takes skill. My varied background (journalist, editor, proofreader, copywriter) has given me the skills to write in so many different forms. I possess expertise in no fewer than 21 different writing categories, all of which are included below. Read on to see what I can do for you.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – You probably know that this style of writing is what you need to appear on page one of your favorite search engines. Well, my clients are satisfied that my search engine optimization works for them. But do you know that over time, you need to refresh your pages with new copy? I can help you keep your pages atop Google, Yahoo! and Bing longer.

Blogging – Check out my blog about proper word choice, usingtherightwords (just click the tab at the top). I have blogged about topics ranging from various sports to politics to the home oxygen industry. I’ve blogged posts of less than 100 words to several hundred, but with Twitter limiting your tweets to 140 characters, you need a blogger who can write clear and concise copy.

Elevator speeches/30-second commercials – If you only have a short time to introduce yourself, you need a writer who can write clearly and concisely. I’ve helped numerous clients make their commercials more dynamic, more engaging, more entertaining. This had led to more interest, more inquiries and more jobs. Plus, it's my least expensive service.

Website copy –
You must ensure that the message you have on your website is the message you intend your customers/prospective clients to receive. To that end, I can guarantee that I’ll write using the right words to get your message out. I also can combine SEO-style writing for more effective web pages.

Ghostwriting –
Also known as ghost writing. Whether it's something large like a book or something regular like a blog, if you don't have the time or ability to write it yourself but you want everyone to think you did, hire a ghostwriter to do it for you.

Speech writing –  It doesn't matter if you've got to stand in front of a room full of people for 10 minutes or eight hours, if you are prepared, you'll be succ
essful. I can help organize your thoughts and write clearly. Check out my page devoted to speech writing for the list of 20 types of speeches.

Marketing materials –
Good marketing materials have to guarantee, resonate, authenticate and be concise. They need to make the reader act now and buy what you’re selling. Creativity is my forte, and I can help make your marketing materials sing. Check out the product label on my "Copywriting" page.

Newsletters – These are great ways to inform your audience, whether that’s your employees or customers. Writing newsletters requires other skills including interviewing and page design, skills I bring from my journalist days. Non-profits have taken advantage of my newsletter-writing skills, and so can you.

Press Releases – As a former newspaper writer, I saw press releases of all kinds, so I know what works on a press release and what doesn’t. You need a catchy headline and a first paragraph that will make the reader want to read the entire press release and then assign the story.

Corporate script writing – Corporations of all types often make training videos, commercials and narratives, and they often need someone to do the writing. In the last year, I completed scripting a training video for skiers and snowboarders. Plus, I have experience with corporate writing from my days of technical writing, and I can deliver scripts and narrations that are lively, interesting and instructive.

Ad copy – What are you trying to sell? To whom are you trying to sell? Where are you trying to sell it? Is your intended message reaching your target audience? How catchy, clever and creative is the ad copy? As an ad copywriter, I have written about memory foam beds, spy gadgets, toys, watches and clocks, coffee, automobiles and website development, to name a few, and I can do the same for you.

Online/Dating Profiles -- You want everyone to know who you are, what you stand for, and what you're looking for in a partner. I can write it in any style or tone, from humorous and facetious and sarcastic to romantic, earnest, enthusiastic, excited -- you name it!
